Sometimes it is a hero standing on the battlefield. Sometimes it is a poet watching the last snow of the year. Sometimes it is an emperor facing a choice that will change his empire.

For years, I have been sharing these stories in short videos on TikTok and Instagram, where more than 10,000 people follow my journey through China’s past. But short videos can only hold so much. There is never enough time to tell the whole story.

That is why I started this blog and this project: Dynasty Brush.

What Is Dynasty Brush and What Is Chinese History Unveiled?

Chinese History Unveiled is my main channel, where I share short, story-driven videos about dramatic and emotional moments in China’s past. These stories bring history to life, making it vivid and relatable for audiences around the world.

Dynasty Brush is a newly launched branch of this project, dedicated entirely to art inspired by Chinese history. It focuses on selling digital illustrations and printed wall art that capture the spirit of legendary figures, epic battles, and timeless cultural moments.

Dynasty Brush is my way of bringing Chinese history to life through modern digital art. It is a space where art and history live side by side, and every image is rooted in a real story.

I have partnered with a skilled artist who works entirely by hand, using Photoshop and a digital drawing tablet. Each piece takes weeks to complete, from the first pencil-like sketches to the final, polished image. Every detail is crafted with care, drawing from historical records and authentic references whenever possible.

From China’s Dynasties to Legendary Figures

Chinese civilization has thousands of years of history. Each dynasty left behind its own culture, achievements, and art styles. From the flowing landscapes of the Song Dynasty to the vivid court scenes of the Ming, art has always been a mirror of its time.

But a painting without its story is incomplete. A portrait of Guan Yu (?-220 AD) is not just a warrior holding a blade, it is the man whose loyalty and courage became a legend in ancient China.

Yang Guifei (719-756 AD), under the quiet night sky, was once called the most beautiful woman in China. Yet she was also the turning point from prosperity to decline for the Tang Dynasty. Behind that still night was a brewing storm.

Mulan (4th-6th century AD), clad in armor, finally lets her long hair flow when alone outside the camp, revealing her true identity as a woman.

And Li Jingxun (600-608 AD), a little girl born into the Sui royal family and deeply loved by her grandmother, passed away at just nine years old. Looking back at what followed, perhaps her short life was a blessing in disguise.

And then there is Li Ling (?-74 BC). In 99 BC, he led 5,000 Han infantry against 80,000 Xiongnu horsemen. Surrounded and outnumbered, his entire army was annihilated. Forced to surrender, he secretly planned to escape back to Han. But tragedy struck, the Han Emperor ordered the execution of his entire family. With no home to return to, he spent the rest of his life in the harsh northern winds, his heart forever longing for his homeland and the loved ones he could never see again.

For now, only the portrait of Guan Yu is complete. The others are still in progress, but the variety of these themes gives me an endless source of inspiration for creation.

By sharing the history behind each piece, I want modern viewers to connect with the people who lived centuries ago. They laughed, cried, loved, lost, dreamed, and fought for what they believed in, just as we do today.

Artistic Styles and Creative Process

Our illustrations will include a variety of styles to match each subject. Some will draw inspiration from traditional Chinese ink painting with bold, flowing brush strokes. Others will use the gentle, layered tones of watercolor. More styles will come in the future, but the focus will always remain on historical subjects and authentic storytelling.

Each piece begins with research into the person or event. We reference historical sources, examine old artworks, and imagine the atmosphere of that time. From there, our artist creates multiple sketches, refining the composition before moving into color and texture. The goal is to produce high-quality digital art that feels alive while staying true to history.
